The Environmental Stewardship run by Natural England will pay regular payments to farmers who maintain traditional features on the farm including stonewalls, hedgerows, ditches, ponds and trees. There are three schemes Entry Level, Organic Entry Level and Higher Level.

The Entry Level Stewardship (ELS)

Will pay twice yearly payments to farmers in England who maintain features and habitat such as hedges, ditches, buffer strips, stone walls, and in-field trees.

All farmers should consider if they are eligible to obtain £150 per hectare payable over five years under Environmental Stewardship - Entry Level Stewardship (ELS).

CMS UK have a team of agriculturally experienced staff, trained on the Natural England / Defra Environmental Stewardship Schemes and ready to assist farmers and landowners with advice and information. We can provide any one or a combination of the following services:

• Preparing and submitting Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) or Organic Entry Level Stewardship (OELS) applications to Natural England.
• On farm one to one discussions with experienced staff, and advice on options tailored to your requirements.
• Drawing up the Farm Environment Plan (FEP) and preparing Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) applications.
• Acting as agent to applicants in respect of Environmental Stewardship applications.

The Organic Entry Level Stewardship (OELS)

Will pay twice yearly payments to organic farmers in England who farm land that is registered as organic and maintain features and habitat such as hedges, buffer strips, stone walls, farm woodland and in-field trees.

All organic farmers should consider if they are eligible to obtain £300 per hectare payable over five years under Environmental Stewardship - Organic Entry Level Stewardship (OELS).

The Higher Level Stewardship (HLS)

Will pay twice yearly payments to farmers in England who deliver significant added environmental benefits in high priority situations and locations. HLS is a discretionary scheme and concentrates on the more complex types of management in targeted areas. Your project might be eligible to obtain HLS payments payable over ten years under Environmental Stewardship - Higher Level Stewardship (HLS).
