Planning permission & change of use

Change of Use

Material changes of use of land or buildings may constitute development, and therefore can require planning permission. One of the areas of planning law that is frequently misunderstood is use classes and change of use. Before you change an agricultural/commercial property you should always check whether the change of use requires planning permission. Uses are divided into use classes and to switch from one use to another may or may not require planning permission.

Examples of change of use are:

  • Field shelters
  • Caravan storage
  • Agricultural fields used for storage, private garden or as a ménage
  • Poly tunnels
  • Bed and Breakfast in farm houses

CMS UK can offer professional advice and planning application support for any change of use.
